What an excellent day serving right here in Lower Sackville! Our team spent the morning painting the Foodbank at Beacon House, then heading over to Gateway Foodbank to do cleaning and organizing work. Despite the very cold January weather, the team was energized and busy with the tasks we were given. We were all so inspired by the dedication of the workers at both Beacon House and Gateway. Their strength and kindness as the serve so many families in Sackville was inspiring. We were truly humbled to be able to support them in this small way.
We had a team of hard workers! From 10 years old to…well, a bit older than that…everyone had a good attitude and contributed so much to the day.
As a team, we had been meditating on the verse in Ephesians 5:1-2. The message version reads:
“Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.”
What a challenge to all of us to re-evaluate how we live our lives; how we spend our time and money, how we treat those around us. There are so many opportunities for us to love how God loves. For our team, spending this Go Day serving so close to home reminded us all that we need to be seeking God and asking Him to open our eyes to the needs that surround us daily.

Beacon House is in need of volunteers in a number of different areas. Whether you can commit to a regular volunteering schedule, or perhaps a one-time commitment, there is something you can do to help this awesome organization right here at home!
