What a great afternoon serving at Souls Harbour! Our original plan for our GoDay on Friday, March 10, 2017 was to go down to Bridgewater and help out at the new Souls Harbour location there. But in the end we were unable to do this due to issues at their end.
HOWEVER, we were so glad to have the opportunity to support Souls Harbour right here in Halifax.
We were a small, but mighty group! We had a lot of fun working together and serving the men and women in our city. There were approximately 80 people served that afternoon.
Souls Harbour offers emergency help, such as food and clothing, life-changing programs, and the Gospel Message. We are always so inspired by Ken and Michelle, and all the amazing staff at the Mission.
In Isaiah 25:4, it says:
“Because You stand up for the poor and weak, You comfort and empower them in their distress, Giving them safe harbour and cool shade when it’s hot; You shelter them from their oppressors’ blows as a strong wall holds back the driving rain.”
So often in the Bible we are reminded that as followers of Christ, there is a mandate on us to love and support people whom society has cast aside. Any chance we have to be a part of this work we need to take seriously. We thank God for Souls Harbour Mission, and others like them who work day in and day out to love and give “safe harbour” to people in need in our city.
What you can do:
Souls Harbour is always in need of volunteers to come help serve. They are open every week day from 1-4pm, and have just started serving lunch on Saturdays from 12-1pm. You can apply to be a volunteer by filling in this form on their website.
You can also support them financially. Visit their website to learn more.
